THERMAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENTS – 6 STAR ENERGY REPORTS

All building plans in Australia require a thermal Performance Assessment that complies with the requirements of the NCC, and is a requirement of the building permit process. The aim of this Compliance requirement is to ensure that your home functions in the most energy efficient manner and ultimately will save you money to heat, cool and light.

New homes are required to meet a minimum 6 star rating and must be prepared by an accredited Thermal Performance Assessor. Additions and extensions may likewise need to meet the 6 Star Energy Efficiency requirement or may be assessed using the Deemed to Satisfy compliance method.

Our team at Vicdraft have been accredited Thermal Performance Assessors since 2004 and can provide thermal performance assessments using the Firstrate5 program for both new homes and additions for all areas of Victoria.. Alternatively Deemed Satisfy reports for homes Extensions can be supplied.

HOW TO ARRANGE A THERMAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT.

To arrange a thermal performance assessment for you building plans is as simple as a call to our office to discuss your project and the documents required to complete an assessment. Alternatively a pdf copy of your plans can be email to our office for a preliminary review.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE AND ASSESSMENT

When sending documents via email we will need one complete set of plans in pdf format including the following:

New Homes

Site plan, showing any adjacent structures and north direction
Detailed and dimensioned floor plans in including floor coverings
Elevations – including floor levels and window openings
Sections – showing construction details and insulation
Electrical plan – showing lighting, ceiling fans and exhaust vents.
Window schedule, showing glazing and frame preferences
Construction material specifications – including all insulation to be installed
A Copy of Plan of title for the project address.

Additions and Extensions

All of the above plus

Detailed and dimensioned existing floor plans in including floor coverings
Existing window sizes, frame type and glazing
A list of existing insulation

THERMAL PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT PROCESS.

New Homes

All documents provided undergoes a preliminary review to check for the information required to complete a report. If all the information has been provided a preliminary assessment is undertaken to establish the thermal performance of the plans as drawn. If the thermal performance assessment is compliant with the 6 star requirement the plans will be stamped with the compliance stamp and a report issued using the Firstrate5 Software program.

If the plans provided do not meet the 6 star requirement of the building regulation, options will be discuss that will improve the energy efficiency of the design to cost effectively achieve 6 star compliance.

Additions and Extensions

The documents will be preliminarily assessed in the same manner as for a new home and if all the required information has been provided the thermal performance of the existing home and the proposed completed dwelling are assessed. Once the new structure meets compliance a report will be issued.
